A bird in the brine is worth two days in the eats

18 pound turkey in a salt/sugar brine...anticipation!
This adventure started last year. I'm a huge fan of Good Eats on FoodTV. Imagine that. A geeks food show topping my list.

Last year, I tried his roasting method minus the brine. OhCountess just wasn't sure about all the salt. We've now watched the episode "Romancing the bird" a good half dozen times.

Well there it is, our 19 pound turkey is taking a brine bath. I know, it's a good 5 pounds heavier then the 14 pounder he uses in the episode, but I've got 14 people coming tomorrow and I'll be damned if I'm doing all this and not getting homemade turkey dumpling soup and a couple of days of turkey sandwiches out of the deal.

I'll let you know how it goes, until then Happy Thanksgiving and Good Eats!

Salt and sugar brine huh??

Good eats has an episode? I'll have to check it out. We bought two turkeys, then my mom got sick last night and had us come and get her turkey.

I'm with you too.. What's thanksgiving without turkey leftovers?? Turkey is my favorite!

I'll be watching closely, tell us more about how this salt sugar brine works!!

My son was just complaining last night that I never try new ways to fix a turkey--like brining! I told him my way works every time for me, we like how it tastes, so why mess with it? His response? We have the same things fixed the same way every year! Guess the boy doesn't understand tradition Maybe he needs to watch Fiddler on the Roof! On the other hand, before going to bed last night he did ask if I needed help with dinner today. Doing it all by myself is one tradition I'll happily forego!

We brined ours, too, this year. It was delicious! :)

I tried brining this year, too, and the results were amazing! How'd yours turn out?
